We stayed at May Hotel for two nights before flying back to Germany, and overall we had a pleasant stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we really appreciated being allowed to check in early.
We booked the half-board option, and both the breakfast and dinner were good. Breakfast offered a nice variety of choices, and dinner was tasty with enough selection.
Our room was clean, well maintained, and spacious enough to comfortably move around and store our luggage and belongings. The beds were also very comfortable, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep. The bathroom, however, was quite small for the size of the room—we found ourselves almost bumping into the shower glass enclosure. That said, the shower had excellent water pressure, which we really appreciated.
The hotel also has a gym with enough equipment for a basic workout, which was a nice bonus during our stay.
The hotel itself is comfortable, although the rooms and facilities feel a bit outdated and could benefit from some renovation. The location is also not the most convenient, as there is no direct access to the beach, so you’ll need to walk a few minutes to reach it.
Overall, it’s a good value for money with excellent service, comfortable rooms, good food, and useful amenities. With some modernization and a more convenient beach location, it would easily be an even better stay.
BEST SERVICE!
I’ve stayed at quite a few hotels, but May Beach Hotel really stands out! ☀️🌴
The service is easily 5/5. We arrived late and were welcomed with a complimentary meal and drinks in the restaurant, which was such a nice gesture and immediately made us feel welcome.
The food is also 5/5, with a huge variety and something for almost every type of diner. The location is great too — around a 5-minute walk to the beach and
Platanes, and only about 11 minutes by taxi to Rethymno (€10).
What really makes this hotel special is the staff. Everyone has been incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming throughout our stay.
Couldn’t be happier with our experience. We would definitely come back and couldn’t recommend May Beach Hotel enough! ❤️🇬🇷
Very bad service. You never scream at a client, never!
I asked the reception to order a taxi to the airport. The receptionist called a taxi company, but told me she didn't know whether a taxi was available or what time it would arrive. Since I had a flight to catch, I preferred to order one myself through the FreeNow app to be sure of arriving on time. I showed her my booking on the app, and she clearly understood and agreed to call the taxi company back to cancel the request.
I then waited about 10 minutes with my friends. When my taxi arrived and I went to collect my luggage, she started screaming at me, saying that what I had done was unacceptable and that my attitude was rude. She was literally shouting at me in front of my friends.
Under no circumstances does a receptionist have the right to scream at a guest. I was simply making sure I had a taxi and would get to the airport on time. This kind of treatment is very disappointing from a 4–5 star hotel charging over 100 euros per night. Honestly, I don't understand it. You should train your staff better so they can treat guests with courtesy and respect.
We had an absolutely amazing honeymoon at May Beach Hotel, Crete. They gave us the perfect time to relax whilst having lots of things to do and see. This was made particularly special by the attentive, warm and welcoming staff who all made us feel incredibly valued, and by the time of our departure, we knew most by name.
As we first arrived later in the evening, when we checked in we were treated to a fabulous, fresh greek meal - hospitality of which set the tone of the vacation. The hotel had everything you could need and all the facilties were upheld to an imaculate standard.
The main pool is a great size and depth, with a separate secluded kids pool if this suits your needs. The poolside bar is a handy convienience that offers a great range of refreshments as you lounge poolside. Other amenities like tennis, badminton/ volleyball and table tennis are provided and are free of extra charge. The gym is a peaceful sanctuary with enough equipment to get a good workout in.
There is access to the nearest beach via a bridge found towards the back of the premises which opened during our stay. Seemingly this may depend on seasonal status.
We would utmost urge anyone to initially try out the Panorama Tour, advertised at the Hotel, with an office (This Is My Creta) a short walk down the road. This is the best way to explore the many slices of life Rethymno has to offer. The sublime beaches, tasty tavernas, glorious gorges, hidden chapels, hill nestled choriá... and lots of olives. There are plenty more adventurous excursions available too, when you're ready.
We would recommend this hotel highly if you want to experience a quiter, more tranquil getaway in a rural location with the option to dip your toe in to the busier city of Rethymno at a comfortably walkable distance. On the other side, it is just as easy to escape further into the idyllic hills towards the south.
Hopeful we get the chance to stay here again in the future.
Thank you May Beach Hotel!
Well; what can I say?! We have been home for a week and we are desperate to come back to Crete and the May Hotel!
We have fallen in love with Crete and its people; the hotel definitely helped us arrive at this conclusion.
Fantastic hospitality, super friendly and helpful staff, great food, a lovely lovely atmosphere, very clean, beautiful gardens - it was almost like being at someone’s house/garden party rather than at a hotel.
We loved it and can’t wait to be back. This was our first holiday abroad for sometime, due to myself having gone through Breast cancer treatment - we all really needed a good holiday and we found it here.
Thanks to Maria and everyone there xxxx
