Do not book this hotel. I repeat: do not.
If you’re picturing a 5-star escape at the Elinotel Apolamare in Chalkidiki, close that tab now and save yourself the money, the time, and a stomach ache your travel insurance won’t cover. This isn’t a “your mileage may vary” situation, this is a full, unfiltered warning from someone who lived it with 4 adults and 4 kids in tow, so nothing here is exaggerated. Read on before you make the same mistake we did.
Let’s start with the math: 4,500 euros, 5 nights, 4 adults, 4 children, and an “Ultra All Inclusive” package that I can only assume refers to the ultra amount of regret included. This hotel wears its 5 stars like a costume — technically on, convincingly nowhere near fitting.
The Food: A Culinary Mystery Tour
Forget chicken breast. Forget anything resembling a fresh, recognizable protein. Instead, prepare for a rotating cast of frozen, processed mystery meats (beef liver here, duck there, bones of lamb.. brown chicken nuggets, ZERO SEAFOOD ZEROO) all seasoned exclusively with suspicion. Our children survived on plain pasta and fries, which, credit where due, is the one dish the kitchen couldn’t ruin.
The drinks were FAKE Coke and Sprite. The tap water tasted sour enough that we started buying bottled water from the supermarket, a delightful bonus expense on top of the “all inclusive” price tag.
Pool snacks operated on a first-come-first-served Hunger Games model: two pieces of bread, a lonely slice of cheese, gone within the hour, never restocked. Miss the window, miss the meal.
When we finally complained about the food, the hotel’s solution was a fruit plate and a bottle of wine sent to the room — the same fruit from the restaurant buffet, now dressed up as an apology. Nothing says “we hear you” like recycling the produce.
Traveling with a baby stroller here means becoming a weightlifter, thanks to a hotel apparently designed by someone who has never seen a wheel. Stairs everywhere, zero ramps. One of our group has a hip condition and there wasn’t a handrail or accessibility aid in sight. Ultra all inclusive, it turns out, does not include ultra basic consideration.
The Room: Vintage, If Vintage Meant Moldy
The furniture has seen better decades, the AC exhales a light mildew perfume, and the towels come pre-ventilated with holes — free air conditioning for your body. No kettle, no coffee station, nothing to prepare so much as a bottle for a baby. Checkout involved a 40-minute wait for luggage assistance, so we hauled our own bags out like the self-sufficient fools we’d become by day five.
WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SERVICE!!
We recently stayed at this property after seeing it advertised as a 5-star luxury destination on both their official website and major booking platforms. Unfortunately, the reality was a stark contrast to the advertisement. This hotel is nowhere near a 5-star standard; in fact, it struggled to meet even basic hospitality expectations.
Staff & Service:
The service was arguably the most disappointing aspect. Instead of the professional, welcoming demeanor you expect at a high-end hotel, the staff were consistently dismissive and unhelpful. Any request for assistance was met with indifference, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than
guests.
Accommodations & Comfort:
The beds were incredibly uncomfortable-thin, worn out, and certainly not the high-quality linens or mattresses promised. A good night's sleep was impossible. Furthermore, the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the room were severely lacking.
Facilities & Dining:
The facilities are dated and poorly maintained.
Many of the amenities highlighted online were either closed, broken, or in such a state of disrepair that they were unusable. The dining experience was equally poor; the food quality was substandard, lacking freshness and flavor, and certainly not reflective of the "fine dining" price tag.
Final Verdict:
Do not be fooled by the 5-star rating shown on booking platforms. This hotel is a massive disappointment that fails on every level-from the food to the furniture to the staff. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere if you are seeking a true luxury experience.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Everything was clean and well maintained, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The rooms were comfortable, and the food was delicious with a good variety of options. Thank you for making our vacation so enjoyable. We would be happy to return and highly recommend this hotel to others.
Although lovely and clean hotel there is quite a distance from shops restaurants. A lot of stairs/ steep ramps with no hand rails so not good for anyone with mobility issues. If your not all inclusive the bar at the pool is very expensive, no coffee or tea making facilities in the room so unless you are charged through the nose at bar for half a cup of coffee. As for the buffet meals, it cold, no labeling to tell you what it is and a very mixed selection that doesn't really go together. Very low standards in the catering department. Not many excursions available in the general area apart from boat rides.
We were there as a family for 6 nights. The room itself was quite OK, the hotel is relatively new however after a rainy day our room was flooded with water.
We had a big apartment with 2 separate bedrooms facing to the pool area. The beds were comfy, the room was nice and new. It was claned every day and this was really ok. The pool area is also ok however it is quite small. The beach is ok too, however a kind of morning rush was needed to have some beds reserved.
We were absolutely not satisfied with the staff at all. If you paid for all inclusive you are served with the possible cheapest drinks. For example you get coffee from the automatic machine but if you pay for it than from the espresso machine. If you ask for a mojito or a gin tonic you will get it prepared from the cheapest ingredients - if you are paying for it than from a standard / higher quality. This is a nonsense at all. This is kind of fooling the guests.
The selection of foods during breakfast / lunch / dinner is pretty bad and the quality of them is very low. Chicken nuggets for the kids are made from crunched garbage I think but for sure not from chicken... Several times happened that some basic things were missing (cups at the cofee machine, plates for having food, bread during breakfast) etc. Forget about having waffles, pancakes or croissants during breakfast...
Despite of having all inclusive service we decided to go out for a dinner every evening... We rather paid at a restaurant to have higher quality food and service than having such a pain every days.
The city center is like 5 min walk with full of restaurants, bars and activities so the location is 100% good.
Huge space for possible improvement especially in terms of hotel services and staff.
For sure not a 5 star hotel.
Potidaea (; Ancient Greek: Ποτίδαια, Potidaia, also Ποτείδαια, Poteidaia) was a colony founded by the Corinthians around 600 BC in the narrowest point of the peninsula of Pallene, the westernmost of three peninsulas at the southern end of Chalcidice in northern Greece. It was located on the site of the earlier Ancient Greek city of Potidaea, at the isthmus of the Pallene peninsula. The fact that Cassander named it after himself suggests that he may have intended it to be his capital, a
