Currently mid holiday staying here.
So far there were a few minor hiccups that I’d written about previously that were quite annoying at the time but to be fair they were addressed and the staff have been very helpful. Hence why I’ve updated my review.
The hotel itself is very nice and very clean. There are plenty of sunbeds too, so far no issues getting one even after coming back to the hotel after a day out.
I do like the selection at breakfast and the different coffees available, too. However I will note that some of the food could be a little bit hotter. Some of it is lukewarm at best.
Attentiveness and swift service is always present from the staff around the pools, order a drink to your sun bed and they arrive a minute or two later.
Surrounding the hotel (literally about a 30 second walk out the front) there are streets with some restaurants and bars of all kinds but there’s not a huge amount of stuff around. We have found travelling elsewhere especially the old town, something that we would consider a must.
All in all so far it’s been pretty enjoyable.
Port Royal is a stunning, modern hotel with fantastic pools and a beautiful beach. It never felt crowded, making for a truly relaxing atmosphere.
The service was exceptional across the board- and as someone with very high standards, the team well exceeded expectations. Being able to order drinks directly to your beach lounger was a wonderful touch!
While I felt the all-inclusive options could have been a bit higher quality, and it wasn't clear why certain menu items required an extra charge, it certainly didn't ruin the experience.
I would fully recommend Port Royal to friends and would love to return!
The hotel is great and the service workers have a great understanding of hospitality. The room was comfortable and the airconditioning worked well (lowest setting 22C). The food at the restaurant was good (both breakfast and dinner). The pools are nice, although they were a bit cold (we had very windy days). The sunbeds are comfortable, but there is a constant struggle to get one. We saw many people left without sunbeds (they have a policy on this but more on this later). The beach is nice, but not spectacular. It is not private and the entry into the water is quite rocky in the beginning.
What we didn't like:
- When we arrived we got a room that was super loud (read my room description), we asked for a change, which they didn't want to deal with and they said there are no other rooms available. After complaining long enough, suddenly there was a cancellation... what a miracle. We got swapped to the same room, but one which is less noisy. On the first day this meant we got in our room at 21:30 instead of our 17:30 arrival.
- The pricing of certain things are laughable. 5 EUR for 1 liter of water if you do not get all inclusive. This feels like the Ryanair or Wizzair of hotels.
- Sunbeds are hard to get and staff enforce a strict 30 minute policy, which I actually do think is fair and a good policy. However, they also want to sell you the option for 20 EUR per day to reserve a sunbed for you without taking your stuff away. This doesn't sit well with me in a 5* hotel. So they know there is a problem and shortage with the sunbeds and they are selling you a solution which they should be fixing in the first place.
- We placed 2-3 items into the fridge in the room, which roomservice took out and left a "kind" note reminding us that we should read the policy. I read the policy, nothing says you cannot place your own items into the fridge. I feel like the hotel shouldn't be trying this hard to squeeze every last eurocent from you.
Overall, its a good hotel. The adult only model is great. Food is good, and the pools are nice. They could use some management/receptionist retraining and they should stop trying to milk you for every last eurocent you've got after you already spent a few thousand EUR for a week at their business.
I would recommend the hotel, but still there are things to improve.
Amazing all-inclusive hotel experience. The outdoor pool areas are lovely, as was the room we stayed in. I had read negative reviews about the food, and using the app to order drinks, however we found the food was fantastic in both the buffet restaurant, and the a la carte restaurants - I honestly do not know why people could have complained. The beach is nice, a lot of pebbles, but it's a beach! The music played in the pool area was good, not too loud, nice chilled mix. Every single member of staff we met was happy, polite and very helpful. Special praise for Vasilis behind the main bar, he really made our evenings enjoyable and makes perfect cocktails!!
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is beautifully appointed, with rooms decorated in a stunning, neutral, and relaxing palette. Everything was exceptionally clean and very well maintained. The rooms also have ample storage, making it easy to unpack while still enjoying the beautiful aesthetic.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, but we paid for the buffet dinner one evening and were very impressed with both the quality and variety of the food. Breakfast was equally impressive, with an expansive and delicious selection catering to a wide range of tastes, including continental, Greek, British, and American options.
The staff in the buffet restaurant were absolutely delightful every morning, especially the hostess with the short blonde hair and freckles who greeted us each day. She was so warm, friendly, and smiley that she really set a positive tone for every morning.
We spent most of our relaxing days by the Kalithea pool, which was lovely. The two members of staff at the bar there were fantastic—always friendly and helpful. They topped up the ice in my water bottle every day, which was such a thoughtful touch. The pool snack menu was delicious, although it would have been nice to have the option of a smaller snack, such as a portion of chips, rather than only full meals.
We also spent a couple of days at the main pool. Unfortunately, there are no table numbers in the sheltered seating area by the towel collection point, so you have to go to the bar to order. We also found the bar staff there to be less accommodating, and we often had to wait quite a while before being acknowledged and served.
The beach attendant was also incredibly helpful. We found that there were almost always sunbeds available on the beach, whereas the pools became very busy quite quickly, especially towards the end of our stay. We never reserved sunbeds ourselves, but by the end of the week most of them had already been reserved.
We did have one minor issue with housekeeping. On several occasions, our bottled water was removed from the minibar and we were left a note asking us not to replace minibar items. At no point had we replaced anything—we had simply used the empty spaces already available. We often returned from day trips with leftover water or picnic snacks, so this became a little frustrating.
We visited the spa twice during our stay. The gym was what you would expect from a hotel gym, with a good selection of cardio equipment and multi-use machines. The massages we had on both occasions were incredible, the facilities were comfortable and relaxing, and the staff at the spa reception were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Overall, this is a beautiful hotel with delicious food, an outstanding range of dining options, and staff who are consistently generous, accommodating, and genuinely delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it.
