All the staff here are brilliant and very friendly. It's close to the beach, shops and restaurants etc. We would have loved a kettle in the room, but otherwise has everything you need and always clean like the rest of the hotel. Food was tasty and plentiful and we always found something to eat, but might be an issue if you have picky eaters, although there is delicious pizza available by the pool throughout the day. I would definitely recommend
Overall, I would definitely say this hotel is worth the money, especially for the price I paid.
The grounds were clean and well looked after, the pool was clean and our room was spacious. I also really liked the option of having a day room if you have a late flight, which was really useful.
The staff work so hard, especially the restaurant staff. They seemed to be there from morning until night and were always busy. The food was good for the price we paid, freshly made and there was something for everyone. The chef was also a lovely guy and was always around the restaurant.
This is definitely a quiet and relaxing hotel rather than a party hotel, which suited us. Just be aware that it is quite remote. There are a few local shops and a small beach nearby, but there isn’t much else around. The bus to Heraklion is roughly every two hours and the same coming back. This isn’t a criticism of the hotel, but it’s worth knowing before you book.
There is also a real mix of nationalities staying here, with English guests seeming to be in the minority. Some people may really enjoy that, but after what happened to us, I did feel there can be cultural differences between guests and perhaps not everyone naturally mixes together.
Unfortunately, the last part of our holiday was spoiled by an older Swedish man staying in the apartment next to ours. One evening he was sitting on his veranda outside our apartments, heavily drunk and blowing cigarette smoke towards our door. He then became very aggressive and intimidating towards me. He could clearly see I was alone with my two young children, but still thought it was acceptable to tell me to “go back to England” and make derogatory comments about English people.
I found this completely unacceptable and xenophobic. My children were scared by his behaviour and afterwards didn’t really want to leave the room. His wife looked absolutely mortified by what was happening and the following morning quietly apologised to me when he wasn’t looking.
I didn’t say anything to the hotel at the time because, to be honest, he seemed very drunk, unpredictable and intimidating. I was genuinely worried about what he might do if he knew I had complained. As a woman on my own with two young children, I wasn’t prepared to risk making the situation worse.
It’s a real shame because apart from this incident, we had a good stay. The hotel itself was good, the staff worked incredibly hard and we found it to be good value for money. I don’t blame the hotel for the behaviour of another guest, but unfortunately it did affect the last part of our holiday.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful and relaxing rather than somewhere for nightlife. Just be aware of how remote the location is.
Just returned from a great week at Alexander House Hotel, absolutely value small family run Hotel. Good location few minutes to beach bar and shops, some nice sea views from certain points at Hotel. Good staff and services foods good but for excess salt. Not recommended for mobility issues. Thanks to all the staff always active and cheerful 😊
Not a particularly good hotel lots of steps so if you're not fully fit it's best to avoid. The room we had was filthy dirty with black hairs all over the bed and in the bathroom. Reception staff were quite rude and totally uninterested. The food wasn't to bad to be honest and there was a good choice. After staying for 3 nights we decided that we had enough and found ourselves a far better family run hotel.
We spent an amazing week at Alexander House Hotel, and it exceeded all of our expectations.
What made this place so special wasn’t just the beautiful setting, the delicious food or the clean and comfortable rooms—it was the people. Every single member of staff was incredibly warm, welcoming and genuinely cared about making everyone’s holiday memorable.
Our stay became even more special because we celebrated my mum’s birthday during our holiday. The team surprised her with a beautiful birthday cake, and they made her feel so celebrated.
The food was varied and tasty every day, with plenty of Greek specialties, and the hotel is in a great location for both relaxing and exploring Crete.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Alexander House Hotel for making us feel so at home. It’s rare to find a place where the hospitality is this genuine. We left with wonderful memories and would love to come back one day. ❤️
