The hotel itself was stunning, with beautiful views surrounded by mountains and with the sea visible from the property. We really loved our room, and as we had booked the premium service, we received champagne on arrival and had a complimentary minibar, which was a lovely touch.
We did have some difficulty with the language, as there were only a few English-speaking staff members. Breakfast was good for us as premium members, as we had access to an à la carte option. However, for non-premium guests, there didn’t seem to be many vegetarian choices.
Dinner was more challenging, especially for vegetarians. We struggled to find suitable vegetarian dishes and often ended up having salads. When we asked if the chef could prepare something vegetarian, the staff weren’t particularly helpful, which was disappointing.
The entertainment was okay, although if you don’t understand Spanish, it can be quite difficult to follow and enjoy. The kids’ pool area was also quite small compared with the much larger adults-only pool.
Overall, we really liked the hotel, its beautiful location and the rooms, but the limited vegetarian food options and the entertainment were definitely the main areas that let the experience down.
Warning for the things I missed or were unclear from the website:
Specifically booked for 2 bedroom suite, with twin single beds for my son and daughter. Arrived late and found only doubles. Unable to move as fully booked, so having to make do with a temp bed in living room. Not ideal.
No aircon in bedrooms (living room only) so feel picture showing air con is misleading. Rooms very warm at night and lots of noise for nearby motorway and nice 3am and 6am wake ups daily with the local bin lorry depot nearby.
Location seems OK but on reflection I should have researched more as 1 hour drive from airport and the hill it is on is huge so have to drive everywhere or get a local shuttle bus.
Food is OK, not amazing. Breakfast always very busy. Drinks purchased separately unless all inclusive.
In short, website is probably a bit vague and its not as nice as it looks.
Main pool is much smaller and shallower than it looked so not used it. Shame as that is the heated one.
So near the end of the holiday. Mixed feelings as 4 days had a blanket of cloud cover over whole days, 5 days of blazing sunshine. The hotel rooms are big enough although a bit dated, air con is noisy but able to sleep through it. The food wasn't the best at the start but seems to have picked up, so far breakfast and dinner is good.
Drinks are decent, staff are super nice and the entertainment is good. The pool is great and clean. I knew you might have the low cloud cover but so far its been half the holiday under constant clouds.
If your looking for sunshine you might be unlucky and have some days of none, go to the south or somewhere else for your holiday if your main reason is the sun. I wont come back to the north, £2500 and feel a bit sad half the time had no sunshine, otherwise the hotel is loads better than those in the centre of Puerto de la cruz, the centre itself was poor, lots of graffiti and street sellers for braiding hair or dodgy t shirts.
Don't check the weather forecast and think oh its says sunny all week and think it will be trust me, on the days it said sunshine, it was cloud all day. Would have been better staying somewhere else at least the weather forecast is accurate, maybe I was just unlucky. Expectation vs reality, its been cloudy.
Greece booked next year so expectations for plenty sun are high.
Just wanted to say, the hotel and staff were absolutely wonderful. Special regards to Alfonso at the front desk who really set the great standard for the hotel when we first arrived and during our stay and the housekeeping staff who did a fantastic job throughout. The hotel itself is wonderful with an amazing view of Tiede, the sea and the two big pools on the premises, well maintained and there’s a number of different activities to do onsite. Local shops & shopping centre nearby about 5mins drive in both directions
Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing in several aspects.
The booking clearly stated complimentary minibar; however, there was no minibar at all in the room, and we did not even receive bottled water. Because of this, we did not buy water before arrival, which turned out to be a mistake. After check-in, the receptionist (who was otherwise kind) told us to ask on the next day Daniel about it. Honestly, guests should not have to chase or ask repeatedly for something that was promised, especially while on vacation. This should have been handled by reception.
On our last day, we had to leave at 4:00 a.m., so we could not have breakfast. We asked someone at reception whether the breakfast (we had breakfast and dinner included) could be exchanged for lunch on another day, but the answer was no. As a result, one meal was simply lost, which felt very inflexible.
The sound insulation is very poor. We stayed in room 324 and could clearly hear intimate activity and loud noises from the room (probably) above, which was uncomfortable and disturbing. As we had to wake at 3AM, couldn’t sleep and had to travel without almost any sleep.
The food was average. Pancakes were good.
Some room details were poorly designed:
• The toilet paper holder is about 80 cm away from the toilet
• The soap dispenser is about 1 meter away from the sink
• The TV itself is good, but there is a mirror directly opposite it, so the reflection is constantly visible on the screen
There are only two disabled parking spaces, which seems insufficient.
On the terrace, smoking is allowed on some tables and when the wind blows, the smoke goes directly toward guests while they are eating. I mentioned this to a waitress, and the only solution offered was that I could move to another table, which is not acceptable.
On a positive note, the cleaning staff were excellent, and some of the waiters were also very professional — especially Jesus, who was polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Also, the view is amazing and the pool too.
As a final note, in the restaurant, premium suite guests were seated separately and staff regularly went to their tables to chat and ask if everything was okay. During our entire stay, no one did the same with us.
Overall, the hotel did not meet expectations, and several of these issues could be easily improved with better management and a more guest-oriented approach.
