We had a very pleasant stay at Maleme Mare Hotel. The property is very clean and recently renovated, which makes the overall atmosphere fresh and comfortable.
It is more of a quiet, adults-oriented hotel, with very few children, making it ideal for a calm and relaxing holiday.
The swimming pools are not heated, but this was not an issue for us. During the day, until around 6 p.m., the water temperature was very comfortable for swimming. The pools also have different depths, and there are inflatable rings available for guests, which is a nice touch.
The food was varied and well-prepared, with different options every day. Additionally, snacks such as pizza and sandwiches are available throughout the day, so it is easy to stay satisfied at any time.
A special mention goes to Elena, a staff member at the hotel, who was exceptionally kind and helpful. She truly listened to guests’ needs and made an effort to ensure everyone felt cared for. Her attitude made a noticeable positive difference in the stay.
We had a wonderful week staying at this lovely small hotel in Crete. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome by the amazing staff. A special thank you to Elena, Stavros and Sache, who were all incredibly friendly, attentive and always happy to help.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, with a beautiful pebble beach just across the road. On the calmer days, the sea was easy to get into. Wearing a pair of Crocs made it simple to walk over the pebbles and reach the sandy part of the seabed, where swimming was lovely.
One of our favourite things about the hotel was the incredibly comfortable sunbeds, making it easy to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The whole atmosphere was warm and friendly, and it really felt like a home away from home.
The food was excellent throughout our stay, with plenty of variety at breakfast, lunch and dinner, so there was always something to suit everyone’s tastes. The hotel also provided entertainment on three evenings each week, which was a lovely way to spend the evenings without feeling overwhelming.
One evening, we caught the bus into Chania, which was so easy as the bus stop is directly outside the hotel. The last return bus was at 11:45pm, giving us plenty of time to explore. Chania’s Old Town is absolutely beautiful, with its picturesque harbour, charming streets and lots of lovely tourist shops to wander around.
Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing, friendly stay in Crete. We would happily return!
Our 3-night stay at Maleme Mare was unfortunately not pleasant, and I find the 4 star rating far too generous.
The room was very basic and lacked essentials: no body lotion, conditioner or tissues, and the soap/shampoo were poor quality. Bring your own toiletries. There were also no water bottles for refilling and the Wi-Fi barely worked most of the time.
The biggest disappointment was the housekeeping. Our room was not cleaned even once during our entire 3-night stay, let alone changing the towels or bed sheets. This is honestly the first time I’ve stayed at a hotel where our room wasn’t serviced at all during the entire stay.
There was also no proper explanation at check-in about the €10 refundable pool towel deposit, restaurant rules such as no bikinis. Also only one key per room if you want an additional room key costs €5 per day. Our toilet seat was broken, although it was fixed after we reported it.
Breakfast had limited options, while the drinks were limited and artificial/low quality.
On the positive side, there are two nice swimming pools, the staff were friendly, and there are books and board games available. The beach is across the road, although it is pebbly.
Overall, this may be tolerable for a short stay if you’re mainly using it as a base to explore Crete, but I would definitely not recommend it for a full week. For an all-inclusive advertised as 4 star, I expected a much higher standard.
This is a gem of a hotel! The staff are all amazing, the location is beautiful, right on the sea front. The place is so peaceful.
It says 'arrive as a guest, leave as a friend ' which is so true, we now feel like family!!
We visited in June/July 26. The staff are lovely but I'm not sure the hotel deserves it's star rating or it's Jet 2 rating.
Our room was an executive apartment. It was said to have a fully fitted kitchen and air-conditioning and looked very good and and quite upmarket in the brochure. It was very tired looking and where we expected a bit of luxury it was very basic. The kitchen had a coffee maker and sink but was definitely not fully equipped as there was no other equipment to be able to do any cooking of any description not even a knife or fork etc.
The air conditioning was only in the kitchen/living area and didn't cool the bedroom at all. The cleaning wasn't really cleaning - it was bed making and towel refresh.
The Jet 2 brochure describes various health and fitness options including air-conditioned gym and various classes including Yoga and aqua aerobics but these simply didn't exist.
The brochure also states the bar is open fora MINIMUM of 12 hours a day but it's actually open for a Maximum of 12 hours and closes completely at 10.30pm. As there are no real bars in Maleme your only option is to drink on your balcony or go to bed.
The food was adequate but quite repetitive. If you didn't get foor your meal as the restaurant opened you were very limited to what you could have as a lot of things didn't appear to be replenished.
The pool areas are very nice with lots of comfortable sunbeds. The hotel also has some not so comfortable sunbeds on the beach for €5 for 2 beds and a umbrella.
As I said initially all the staff are friendly amd helpful which is why I'm giving the review 4 stars instead of 3.
I know the hotel attracts a lot of repeat visitors and I think the staff are the main reason for this.
Unfortunately not a hotel we would return to.
