We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Center Parcs Park De Haan in Belgium and honestly could not have asked for a better break.
The weather was incredibly hot during our stay and, due to the design of the accommodation, the upstairs bedrooms became very warm, especially as the secondary and third bedroom windows only partially open because of the child safety restrictors. However, we made the best of it and ended up having one of those unexpected holiday moments that you remember for years.
The lounge and the garden were beautifully cool and comfortable, so we slept downstairs and spent the evening outside. It turned out we weren’t the only ones with the same idea. Thanks to the layout of the lodges, we found ourselves sharing the experience with our neighbours, who were having a grand old time into the early hours of the morning who had taken to sleeping outside on the sun loungers to keep cool. We were even treated to an impromptu soundtrack featuring The Cranberries, a band we had not heard in years.
What could have been an uncomfortable, sleepless night instead became one of the highlights of our holiday. There was something really lovely about everyone embracing the heatwave together and making the best of it. Despite the late night, I somehow didn’t wake up feeling like a “zombie” the next day and instead felt genuinely grateful for such a memorable and unexpectedly special evening.
Thank you, Park De Haan, for a wonderful stay filled with sunshine, relaxation and memories that will make us smile for years to come. We will definitely be back.
Great place, close to the beach. De Haan is a lovely little town. We had a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom Lodge with a sauna and jacuzzi bath. Had everything we needed in the kitchen. The package they leave with towels etc is inadequate, so recommend taking extra. The beds were comfortable as were the sofas. We were 4 adults and 2 children and for us I think having 4 bedrooms would have been better.
Loads of stuff to do but I think it mostly would suit under 12s. We didn't hire bikes as 2 people didn't cycle which was a shame as the area is very flat. The boys loved the swimming pool and the bowling and tried the archery but we did go out to Bruges, the trenches at Sanctuary Wood and even went into Holland.
The food both in the restaurants and delivery service was tasty and plentiful and the onsite shop was well stocked
Would recommend Center Parcs De Haan, cheaper than the UK and far more interesting
Unfortunately, our stay was far from what we expected. We have been in four different locations (two in German, Holland Port Zeland, France Trua Fore) in different countries before and this one was the worse.
First of all, when we arrived at our cottage, it was not properly cleaned. The shower drain upstairs and the sink downstairs were blocked, so the water simply wouldn’t drain. We also had problems with the dishwasher. These are basic things that should be checked before guests arrive.
The Aqua Mundo was another big disappointment. It was extremely hot, overcrowded and not very clean. There were simply too many people and not enough space. The smell of chlorine was incredibly strong. I have asthma, and I literally could not stay there because it became difficult for me to breathe. Even for people without respiratory problems, the conditions were very unpleasant.
But what disappointed us the most was the way the staff treated our family.
We were travelling with our 81-year-old grandmother, who has difficulty walking long distances. Our cottage was quite far from the entrance, while the parking area was at the beginning of the park. We asked the staff several times if we could simply drive our grandmother to the cottage and then immediately return the car to the parking area.
We were not asking for anything unreasonable — just a little understanding and flexibility for an elderly person. Instead, we received rude and disrespectful responses from the staff. There was absolutely no empathy or willingness to help.
We also had children with us, and the whole situation made us feel that there was very little consideration for either elderly or younger guests.
We understand that rules are rules, but there should also be some humanity and common sense, especially when an 81-year-old person is involved.
Overall, between the poor cleanliness of the cottage, maintenance problems, the overcrowded and uncomfortable Aqua Mundo, and the rude attitude of the staff, our experience was extremely disappointing.
Unfortunately, Center Parcs did not feel like the family-friendly and welcoming place we expected it to be.
Great location. 10 min cycle to Le Haan which is a lovely town and beach. Pools and slides are great. Site is immaculately clean and safe for kids. Only issue was a drainage smell in bathroom. Would recommend as overall great value.
Fabulous location, easy drive from the port of Calais. Large well maintained grounds with plenty of play park's for all ages. Whether you hire a bike,go cart, tandem, tricycle or walk, there's always plenty to explore safely.
Of course the undercover water park is spectacular, with all it flumes, wave machines and water features. Lovely baby and toddler pool with plenty of lifeguards on hand throughout the complex. On sight shopping facilities covering most needs, food and all those little necessities and of course the unnecessary. Well maintained and serviced accommodation.
