Lovely 4 star hotel. Seaview was not what I would normally book, as when I do I expect a full sea view, not a view of the building next door and the roofs. When we queried this we was told those rooms are on the system as sea view - we were offered to change the next day but as we'd unpacked we declined.
Exec lounges were lovely and a good place to go and cool down with nice snacks throughout the day. We didn't like the chaos of breakfast in the main restaurant so used the 6th floor lounge for breakfast. Have pastries, fruit and small dishes which were so cute. Coffee was a bit strong and It was hit and miss if had orange juice in the fridge, i had to almost have a row with the girl working there to get some one morning as she was abruptly telling me she had stocked the fridge! But there was other juice not orange.
The reservation of sunbeds - Ridiculously stupid system and although we did pay for this we ended up upsetting new guests who thought they could claim our beds at 9am one morning by putting their towels on our beds! They didn't know of the upgrade and ticket on bottom of the bed system - so made it quite awkward having to tell them! And it made it look like we'd stolen their reserved beds...We also learned this from other guests who had to turf guests off their beds. Why doesn't the hotel just have a specific area for upgrade guests?
The sea & beach was lovely, spent time there as it had a nice breeze to cool down from the heat.
Pools were beautiful and we spent the days constantly in and out of them. The only negative with the shallow pool is that people struggle getting in & out, as there's no handrail or anything to assist you to get out. This really is an accident waiting to happen.
The staff - a "few" were nice & friendly but on the whole we did not find them "amazing" like other reviews have stated. In fact the two ladies in the 6th floor lounge were actually quite rude & unwelcoming! Not what you expect to find in an exec lounge, not as lovely as the ground floor lounge staff - one of the 6th floor ladies was constantly shouting to someone on her phone which isn't what you expect when you go for a chilled breakfast at 8am!
The turn down service - was just someone knocking with one clean towel & bearing in mind there was two of us that was an underwhelming service (unlike other hotels where they tidy, clean round and leave sufficient towels, facecloths and even a chocolate, etc. not here) I asked once for clean facecloths and never got them.
Entertainment - Varied, quite good, especially the late bar with music (they call the club) although this closes at 1am the music finishes promptly before that.
Bars- served great quality drinks, we really loved the availability of prosecco, cocktails and lovely iced coffees which were our go to in the day. Staff again OK, some only made a particular effort to those who had given tips. Also they would bring drinks round the pool to people on sunbeds, BUT only if you tip them! - surely it should be offered to anyone, or those that have upgraded?
A very nice stay but all very odd with the different levels of service. Also not as hospitable as imagined it to be, especially as it was my first visit to Cyprus. But if you want a decent four star near Paphos harbour then book this hotel.
Although the hotel’s review request email says, “Your opinion matters - and we read every comment with care!”, my experience has left me unconvinced.
We have just returned from a 10-night stay at the Cypria Maris. Overall, we had a lovely holiday, but there were several aspects of our stay that were disappointing.
Firstly, the floor in our room did not appear to have been cleaned properly. After walking around barefoot for only a short time, the soles of our feet would be black.
Secondly, my flip-flops disappeared from the side of the swimming pool after I had left them next to my other half’s footwear, which was still there when we returned. I reported this to Reception immediately, who called a member of the Guest Relations team. I felt the matter was handled dismissively. In my view, theft is theft, whether it involves a £20-30 pair of Havaianas or something far more valuable. I followed up the next day with Tamara from Guest Relations, but unfortunately I came away with the same impression. I don’t know whether this reflects the hotel’s general approach to these situations, but I certainly didn’t feel my concerns were taken seriously.
We also ate at the on-site Greek restaurant, where we were served raw pork souvlaki. After we had stopped eating, we felt we were left waiting some time before a member of staff came over to speak to us. They apologised, which we appreciated, and offered us dessert. We politely declined because we no longer felt comfortable eating anything else. Despite this, dessert was still brought to our table.
When checking out, we were not asked how our stay had been or whether we had any feedback, which was surprising. That is the reason I am leaving this review here instead.
On two separate mornings we were woken by someone knocking on our room door. On one occasion, the cleaner told us we needed to be up earlier if we wanted our room cleaned. We found this disappointing and not what we would expect from a four-star hotel that is part of a large international brand.
One thing we also noticed was what felt like an element of “band-ism”. Guests wearing the purple wristbands, which are available as a premium drinks upgrade at €30 per person, per day, appeared to receive a different level of attention. As guests with the standard yellow wristbands, we were left with the impression that we were treated less favourably on some occasions. Of course, this was simply our perception, but it did detract from our overall experience.
This was particularly disappointing as we have previously stayed at a Leonardo Hotel in the UK and had an excellent experience, with no such issues. We therefore expected a similar standard of service at Cypria Maris.
Despite all of the above, we did have a lovely holiday. It is just a shame that these issues detracted from what could otherwise have been an excellent stay.
We would like to say a big thank you to the entire team at Leonardo Plaza Cypria Maris Beach Hotel & Spa in Paphos for an absolutely wonderful stay!
Everything was amazing, from the hotel and facilities to the service and atmosphere. We truly felt welcomed and well taken care of throughout our stay.
A very special thank you goes to Fotoulla, the Head Waiter, who was absolutely exceptional. She was always kind, helpful and professional, and she helped us with so many questions and things we needed during our stay. Her kindness and willingness to help truly made a difference and made us feel very comfortable.
We would also like to give a special mention to Jhonatan at the pool, who was always there to help us and made our time by the pool even more enjoyable.
Thank you to the whole team at Leonardo Plaza Cypria Maris for making our holiday so special. We had a wonderful time and will definitely remember our stay fondly. We would be very happy to return! ❤️
Amazing experience! Local from Paphos and just wanted to change my routine and stay in a hotel. Leonardo hotels are so welcoming, highly recommend the stay! Excellent food, drinks and of course none stop entertainment. The most beautiful experience are two people that made us feel so comfortable! Marina that works at reception not only welcomes you with a huge smile but comforts you with laughs and gives you all you need to know about your holiday experience. Then there is Fotoula head waitress at the main restaurant, she has a beautiful charisma that makes you feel like you are honestly on holiday even though we are from the same city. Sometimes the most important experience is not the destination but the people! Thank you so much!
Overall, we would rate our 5-day stay as good, although there were a few significant issues.
Our first disappointment came at check-in. The gentleman who welcomed us at reception (I believe his name was Thanos) seemed rather uninterested and provided us with no information apart from our room number. I had to find the meal times myself on the hotel's website, and it wasn't until the second day that I noticed a large information screen in the reception area where guests could access useful information and even make restaurant reservations.
The food was good and there was plenty of choice, although after a few days it started to feel a bit repetitive. It was also very much geared towards British guests. The drinks included in the all-inclusive package were good as well, however, we were surprised that they were only available until midnight. After that, all drinks had to be paid for. In my opinion, this defeats the purpose of an all-inclusive package. We have stayed in many all-inclusive hotels before and have never encountered such a restriction.
Another issue was the sunbeds around the pool. Many were reserved before breakfast and then left unused for most of the day. Fortunately, there were plenty of sunbeds on the grass area where it was usually possible to find a spot at any time. The pool water was unfortunately very cold, which may explain why so few people used it. We also noticed a lack of consistency among the lifeguards, some allowed inflatable rings and mattresses in the pool, while others did not.
On a very positive note, all the bartenders, waiters, and housekeeping staff deserve special recognition. They were friendly, hardworking, and professional, and their excellent service greatly enhanced our stay.
There was always something happening at the hotel, so it was impossible to get bored. The evening entertainment was particularly enjoyable. Guests could listen to live music in the lobby and from 9 p.m. onwards, enjoy dancing in the nightclub.
Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment and the main reason we would not return was the handling of our late check-out request. We asked about a late check-out when we arrived, and Thanos assured us that it would not be a problem and advised us to come back the day before departure. When I did so, I was told to return again on the day of departure. The following morning, before breakfast I went back to reception only to be informed that a late check-out was not possible because the hotel was fully booked.
In my opinion, this was very poor customer service. If the hotel could not guarantee a late check-out, we should have been informed from the beginning rather than being given false hope and asked to keep checking back. As our transfer was scheduled for late in the evening, this caused considerable inconvenience.
To summarize, we enjoyed many aspects of our stay, including the food, entertainment, atmosphere, and the excellent service provided by most of the staff. However, the way our late check-out request was handled left a very negative impression, and despite the hotel's many strengths, we would not choose to stay here again.
